Chris Thompson

Chris Thompson is a graduate of Deakin University/Rusden with a Bachelor of Education (Media and Drama), and received his Master of Screenwriting from the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television.

He is currently the host of Behind the Scenes the weekly arts & culture programme for Vision Australia Radio.

A former secondary school teacher, Chris is a multi-award-winning screenwriter and playwright, director, artistic director and arts educator working in theatre, film and television.

His plays have been produced by many companies and have received five Australian Writers Guild AWGIE nominations, winning on three such occasions.

In 2015 he co-created and wrote a series of six short films, and he has been a script assessor for the Australian Writers’ Guild, as well as a judge for numerous performing arts awards panels.

Chris’ talents extend outside the realm of film and TV, though, as a number of his short stories have been published in collections for young adult readers.

Chris has been a sessional lecturer at the Australian Catholic University since 2005, receiving a special commendation for teaching excellence in 2018, being officially recognised as an Education Legend for his services to the field.

Behind the Scenes goes to air every Monday night at 9pm and is repeated the following Saturday at 6.30pm. It’s also available online and via podcast.
