Vision Australia Radio volunteer profile: Ben Murphy

01 September 2020

Vision Australia Radio is proud to share a new partnership with Dumbo Feather magazine, which has seen the best of the publication’s articles and podcasts being featured in a weekly one hour program presented by volunteer Ben Murphy across the entire radio network.

Dumbo Feather magazine centres around unfiltered, candid interviews from people who are looking to make the world a better place, and through telling their unique stories they hope to motivate others to do the same. To find out more, visit the Dumbo Feather website.

From the very first issue, Dumbo Feather magazine has provided a platform for these people to tell their stories, and Ben is proud to bring these stories to listeners across our radio reading network throughout Australia.

A magician and illusionist by trade, Ben's acts feature magic, original effects, grand illusions and audience interaction, all rolled into one of the most enjoyable entertainment experiences for his audiences.

With his warm, approachable and energetic personality, thousands of clients have secured Ben for their awards nights, gala dinners and international tours, and it’s this outgoing personality and flair for performance that makes him the perfect fit as host of Vision Australia Radio’s Dumbo Feather Magazine Hour.

Ben caught up last week with Chris Thompson on Behind the Scenes to chat more about his magic side, and what led him to where he is today.

“We were extremely pleased when Ben approached us to be a part of our volunteer team,” Vision Australia national audio business development consultant Jason Gipps said.

“Ben has supported community radio for some time and is an entertainer through and through. He’s picked up on this new challenge very quickly which shows his versatility as a performer,” he said.

Jason acknowledges it has been a tough year for everybody with the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on people. This is why he has been so pleased to see the partnership with Dumbo Feather grow and flourish, and to have Ben on board to bring it to life.

“In a time where much of our content has rightfully centred around news on the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic, it’s great for us to also share stories of empowerment that challenge, inspire and educate us.

“Dumbo Feather has been a favourite of our team for some time now so we are thankful that the publishing team have agreed to a partnership that allows us to produce a weekly program for all to access free via their local Vision Australia Radio reading service,” Jason said.

Tune in to hear Ben on the Dumbo Feather Magazine Hour, every Sunday at 2:30pm on Vision Australia Radio, VA Digital and varadio.org

Ben has also put together a short video to introduce himself, or if you’d like to know more about Ben you can visit his website.
